In the Shade of the Almighty

In the Shade of the Almighty

☀️ In the Shade of the Almighty: A Summer Reflection on the Secret Place

There’s something sacred about summer. The sun rises earlier, lingers longer. The pace of life, though still busy, softens around the edges. There's more sky, more air, more time to be still—if we’ll take it.

But even in summer’s sweetness, life can feel scorching. Responsibilities bear down like midday heat. Our souls grow tired, our minds overheat with decision, noise, and striving.

And yet...
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress:
My God; in him will I trust.

Psalm 91:1–2 KJV

There is shade
A place not scorched by the world’s demands.
A place not dried up by disappointment or heatwaves of hardship.
It is the secret place—and it still exists for us.

🕊️ The Invitation: Come Apart

We are invited to dwell—not visit, not wave at, not pass through—but dwell in the shadow of the Almighty. But dwelling is a choice. Not a default. Not automatic.

Even Jesus lamented over those who refused His covering:

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem… how often would I have gathered thy children together,
even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!”

Matthew 23:37 KJV

The wings were there.
The shade was real.
But the people wouldn’t come.

And isn't that still the struggle?
We say we need rest, but we don’t stop.
We say we need peace, but we run headfirst into noise.
We say we trust God, but we don't always draw near.

💧 How Do We Enter the Secret Place?

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.”
James 4:8 KJV

We enter the secret place not by effort—but by turning.
Turning our hearts. Our schedules. Our attention.
It happens in the quiet moments:

  • A whispered prayer instead of a scroll.

  • A confession that breaks the cycle.

  • A pause to listen, not just speak.

  • Opening the Bible, not out of duty—but desire.

It’s a place of repentance, yes, but also rest.
A place to cry, but also to hope.

“Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.”
Psalm 119:114 KJV

🌿 When We Dwell, We Witness

The more we remain in God’s presence, the more we see:

  • His provision in dry seasons

  • His protection when life unravels

  • His peace when the heat rises

  • His Word as a shield, not a burden

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower:
The righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”

Proverbs 18:10 KJV

And oh, how we begin to trust Him.
Not because we should—but because we see the safety in His shade.
We feel the coolness of His nearness.
We witness firsthand: He is faithful.

🏡 He Is Also Drawing Near

Don’t forget this—
It’s not just about you getting to the secret place.

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock:
if any man hear my voice, and open the door,
I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

Revelation 3:20 KJV

Jesus is not hiding from you.
He is knocking. He is waiting. He is near.

“That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him,
and find him, though he be not far from every one of us.”

Acts 17:27 KJV

🌻 A Summer Closing Prayer

Lord, I draw near.
I lay down the heat of this life.
I find shelter in Your Word.
I rest beneath Your wings.
You are my hiding place, my tower, my home.
In Jesus’ name—Amen.

🌞 Wear This Word:
Let this summer be more than sun and sandals. Let it be the season you found shade in Him.
Whether you're reaching for your Bible, or a moment of peace—remember this:

There is a secret place.
And when you dwell in it, the heat can't touch you there.
